WWWE Logo Server Load

Server load refers to the amount of use that a server is getting. (A server is a program that provides its clients with access to other programs). A Web page that is accessed often would be said to have a heavy server load. "Adult entertainment" Web pages are an example of a site that might enjoy a heavy server load.

Detail:

What is the impact of server load upon Internet users? When a server is overburdened with work (and therefore experiencing a heavy server load), access that server is slower and more difficult. So if you're trying to access a Web page and your browser keeps telling you that the server is busy, it probably means that the server load is heavy. Sometimes people are asked (or forced) to shut down popular pages that overextend the server's load--this is especially common when the page in question uses a university or community server.
